Investigation of Egyptian Blue on a Fragmentary Egyptian Head Using ER-FTIR Spectroscopy and VIL Imaging

چکیده
Non-invasive techniques are being increasingly used for the study of heritage objects. This article describes results pigment analysis on a fragmentary Egyptian sculpture using two non-invasive infrared methods: external reflectance Fourier-transform (ER-FTIR) spectroscopy and visible-induced luminescence (VIL) photography. ER-FTIR was to identify certain pigments sculpture, including blue, in variously coloured areas. An optimized VIL photographic technique, high-resolution camera combined with focus-stacking, permitted detailed mapping location blue sub-millimeter grains scattered across object’s surface, which were not visible naked eye.

Egyptian Blue And/or Atacamite in an Ancient Egyptian Coffin
This work deals with the composition of the blue and green pigments used in the wooden sarcophagus studied by Abdelaal et al. and published in 2014 in this journal. From the published data, a degradation of the originally used Egyptian blue pigment is proposed. The presence of chlorine in the pigment deduced from SEM-EDS analyses and the greenish hue observed point to the formation of a certain...

This study aimed to investigate the effects of nitrogen fertilizer and a bioherbicide on Egyptian broomrape in a tomato research field at College of Agriculture, Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran in 2014. Treatments consisted of several levels of nitrate ammonium including 0, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha-1 and a biofertilizer as the first factor and how to use the bioherbicide including soak...
متن کاملImaging the Egyptian Obelisk at Kingston Lacy
The obelisk that stands in the grounds of the National Trust property at Kingston Lacy, Dorset, was brought from Egypt in 1821 by William John Bankes. Known as the Philae obelisk, it has hieroglyphic inscriptions on the tapered granite column and Greek on the pedestal. In a multidisciplinary project to mark the success of the Philae comet mission, the inscriptions have been digitised by both re...
متن کاملAn ancient Egyptian mummified head: a second opinion.
We read with great interest the article “High-Resolution Imaging of an Ancient Egyptian Mummified Head: New Insights into the Mummification Process” by R. Gutpa, Y. Markowitz, L. Berman, and P. Chapman. Their observations are very interesting, but their conclusions are difficult to correlate with our knowledge of ancient Egyptian rituals and postmortem pathology. The authors’ analysis of radiol...
